“Robert Jordan was born in 1948 in Charleston, South Carolina, where he now lives with his wife, Harriet, in a house built in 1797. He taught himself to read when he was four with the incidental help of a twelve-years-older brother, and was tackling Mark Twain and Jules Vern by five. He is a graduate of The Citadel, the Military Collage of South Carolina, with a degree in physics. He served two tours in Vietnam with the U.S. Army; among his decorations are the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star with “V,” and two Vietnamese Crosses of Gallantry. A history buff, he has also written dance and theater criticism. He enjoys the outdoor sports of hunting, fishing and sailing, and the indoor sports of poker, chess, pool, and pipe collecting. He has been writing since 1977 and intends to continue until they nail shut his coffin.” -“About the Author” is from the Crossroads of
Twilight book. “Jordan has brought out a completely new allegory in a fantasy concept that goes even beyond this massive story, working with an artist’s eye and the sense of responsibility of a serious historian.” -Gordon R. Dickson “Robert Jordan has a powerful vision of good and evil.” -Orson Scott Card “Robert Jordan has created a world as tangible and creditable as history. He has a fine eye for detail, and a vivid sense of drama.” “Robert Jordan gives us such a world. To the smallest detail, it exists, and its inhabitants will stalk and swagger and shine in the reader’s mind long after the last page. Many writers attempt this. Few succeed. Robert Jordan has.” -Morgan Llewelyn “Jordan writes with the stark vision of light and darkness, and sometimes childlike sense of wonder, that permeates J. R. R. Tolkien’s work. His style is unbeatably his own.” -The Pittsburgh Press “In the decades since J. R. R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings trilogy was published, many fantasy writers have tried to capture the sprit of that seminal work. While many have been able to imitate the style, develop a similarly swift and complex plot, and create convincing characters, none had captured the sprit of small men and mighty, struggling against a force of overwhelming evil. Robert Jordan has.” -The Ottawa Citizen Last revised: 7/09/2004 Copyright
